Diesel, Transportation,

Occupational Exposures, and Health

Mount Sinai School of Medicine

Hatch Auditorium

1450 Madison Avenue

(between 98th and 101st)

New York, NY 10029

Activity Overview and Description

The International Agency for Research on Cancer has recently classified diesel as a human carcinogen. Other health effects of diesel exposure include cardiovascular, asthma, and other chronic and acute illnesses. Clinicians need to understand the link between diesel exposure and health, as well as the need to develop new technologies to reduce diesel exhaust.

This program will provide current information on health effects of diesel for clinicians. In June 2012, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization, classified diesel engine exhaust as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1), based on sufficient evidence that exposure is associated with an increased risk for lung cancer. The monograph will be presented. Additionally, exposure to diesel causes other health effects, and the presentations will identify how worker populations can protect themselves.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for occupational and environmental medicine, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, occupational health healthcare practitioners and researchers involved in workplace safety and healthcare.
